CAP. XIIII.

                                        QVIA & hæc belua versatur in Septentrionalibus aquis, Xiphiæ piscis descriptio.
                                        merito aliis monstrosis veniet adjungenda. Est enim xiphia,
                                        secundum Albertum lib. XXIIII. de Animal.
                                        animal nulli alteri simile, nisi in aliqua proportione ceto.
                                        Caput habet horridum, vt bubo: os profundum valde, veluti
                                        barathrum immensum, quo terret, & fugat inspicientes: Xiphiæ dorsum cuneatum.
                                        oculos horribiles: dorsum cuneatum, vel ad gladii
                                        formam elevatum: rostrum mucronatum, quo naves persossas,
                                        vt Plinius lib. XXXII. cap. II. afferit, in
Oceano ad locum Mauritaniæ, qui Cotta vocatur, non procul Lixo flumine submergit:
vbi quasi in primo originis loco diutius conservatur. Littora vero Septentrionalia
plerunque veluti latrunculi, ac noxii hospites damna semper occurtentibus
navigia persorando, ac submergendo illaturi ingrcdiuntur. Vocantur &Gladii pisces.
