De remediis fugandi Culices, & Cimices.


CAP. VI.


Culices & muscæ a pascuis fumo juniperorumi fugantur.                                         PRÆTEREA vt jumenta in pascuis a culicum muscarumue
                                        infestatione libera permaneant, juniperorum rubos
                                        vbique tam in campis, quam sylvis abundantes, vel pineas arbores,
                                        vbi greges pascuntur, penes radices pastores incendere
                                        solent, similiter & juncos odoratos, ac aridas radices herbæ
                                        serpentariæ, quoniam horum omnium fumis mire arcentur.
Culices quibus a domib’ pelluntur.                                         Deinde ad effugandum culices, & cimices e domibus,
                                        fit suffitus cum minutissimis partibus pini, quæ dum
                                        serratur, in magna multitudine colliguntur: aut cum nigella:
similiter cum myrto sicca, & cum sulphure, & bdellio, ac spina fœtida, tum
etiam stercore vaccino. Item pro eodem malo abigendo aspergetur domus e decoctione
radicis lupinorum, vel nigellæ, vel absynthii, Vel rutæ. Cimices gravis
odor rubearum pellium, quæ a Germanis Reusch leder appellantur, mirifice tollit: hæ
autem a Moschovia per Bulgariam in Italiam, et Romam venales advehuntur: ita &
Cimices quomodo fugantur, ac occiduntur. calx viva cum sulphure mixta eos intersicit. Occiduntur præterea cimices mixtura ex
oleo, argento vivo, sale, aceto, & amaro pomo facta, simulque contrita, decocta, ac rimis
lectorum bis vel ter immissa: sed simplicius & frequentius ferventissima aqua,
quæ intimius penetrat, etiam semina, vermium noxiorum corrumpente. Quod vero
Culicum multitudinis causa. culices tam multi, frequentesque in suppolaribus illis terris vagantur, hanc præcipue
causam habet: quia nulli vespertiliones, qui hos similiaque infecta noctu deprædari
solent, propter continuam dierum & noctium lucem, ibidem manent, neque aliæ
lucifugæ seu nocturnæ aves: quamvis quædam a natura deputatæ, culices ac muscas in
Gulices vt cito generantur, ita & cito pereunt. escam colligentes, reperiantur. Verum vt a putrescentibus celeriter incrementum ac
cipere apparent, ita & aspero flatu evanescere cito consueverunt: pastu nanque deficiente,
ad cognatam putredinem pascendi evolant, atque ibi tabescunt: quod
& Plin lib. XV. cap. XIX. innuere videtur. Meminit denique idem
Plin. lib. XIII. cap. VI. culices e folliculis cujusdam arboris
nasci, etiam e caprifico, quemadmodum lib. XI. cap.
XXXV. attestatur: sed cuncti rigore ventorum
Aquilonarium cito consumuntur.
