Preface to the electronic edition

This dissertation at Uppsala University, Sweden, published in Stockholm, was written in German language and is not a translation. The author Tor Andræ later succeeded Nathan Söderblom both as professor of theology at Uppsala University and as chair 16 (out of 18) in the Swedish Academy.

The dissertation was digitized in October 2014 at the University of Toronto by the Internet Archive, from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg in December 2019. We made our own OCR text without hyphenated words, which is perhaps slightly better than the one from the Internet Archive. The German text doesn't use the ß letter and does not capitalize nouns (except for Buddha, Buddhismus, Christentum, Gott, Islam and Koran, e.g. "zu wissen, dass der apostel Gottes existiert habe"). This has confused the OCR software, which sometimes falsely capitalizes or misreads nouns (welt becomes Welt or weit). The last five pages contain Arabic text, which is not supported by the OCR software.

This volume was scanned elsewhere and made available by the Internet Archive, from where the scanned images were copied to Project Runeberg.
