PREFACE.
The present work is intended to give necessary information to buyers of
Swedish iron and steel. Special care has been taken to make all statements as
correct as possible. They are founded on accounts, given by the different
works themselves and these have further been worked out and put together
under the supervision of Mr. Alf Grabe, especially appointed for this purpose
by Jernkontoret (Iron Masters’ Association). This supervision has even been
extended to the part of this work containing advertisements. In arranging the
section containing lists of products and manufacturers care has been taken to
make the arrangement in a more rational manner than usually is the case in
publications of this kind. The products have been arranged under certain
head titles: pig iron, hot rolled merchant sections, etc. Articles of similar
kind are thus placed in the neighbourhood of each other, which will enable
the reader to use the book with less trouble than if the arrangement was
purely alphabetical.
The lists contain only names of manufacturers. Agents and firms only
trading in iron are confined to the advertising section. Care has been taken
to mention under a certain title only such manufacturers, which regularly
manufacture the article in question.
Finally it should be pointed out that this first edition may be incomplete
in some respects; it may, for instance, prove of advantage to specify the products
still further. Suggestions in this direction will gratefully be accepted.
