Corrugated flues with fire-boxes.

Avesta, and the Hedåker forge near Rosshyttan, producing 100 skeppund of forgings
yearly. Pig iron making ceased at Rosshyttan in 1838 and forging at Hedåker in 1851.

A proposal was made in the Bergslag Co. in 1870 to concentrate at one spot the
manufacture of iron and steel which had hitherto been carried on at a large number of
different works. New iron-works were erected at the Tuna Falls in the River Dal three
years later but, as early as the commencement of 1872, the Bergslag had sold the Avesta
Works to the Avesta-Garpenberg Company, which was formed for the purpose of
continuing the works.

Ten years later, i. e. in 1883, this latter Company sold the Avesta Works to the
AVESTA STEEL WORKS Co., LTD., which is still the owner and which has brought the
manufacture of iron there to its present high standard.

THE COMPANY’S LATEST PERIOD OP DEVELOPMENT.

The Company’s business has, especially in latter years, been characterized by a most
active development in several directions. Extensions and new erections at the works
have followed each other rapidly, and quite a number of acquisitions of other industrial
enterprises have also been made.

The Company acquired in 1917 all the shares in the Högfors and Persbo Company,
Ltd., with a capital of 1 million kronor. The main business of this Company is at
Högfors Bruk, at the station of the same name, a few miles south of Avesta. These
