comprise: iron ore briquettes, ingots, bar- and shape-iron, tool steel, drill steel, iron
and steel plates, shield plates, pressed- and welded heavy plate goods, pressed
cylinders for compressed gas, compressed and turned axles, footings, steel- and pig-iron
castings, &c.
FINANCIAL DATA, BOARD, STAFF, ADDRESSES, &c.
The Company’s share capital is 3,000,000 kronor which amount represents only a
fraction of the firm’s huge assets. Funds: 4,400,000 kronor. The value of the
manufactures: 25,000,000 kronor yearly.
The Avesta Iron Works Company, Ltd., has its headquarters and head office in
Stockholm. Its Board consists of Mr. Axel Ax:son Johnson, who is the sole
shareholder, Mr. A. Jungmarker, and Mr. Erik Andersson, the present manager of the
Avesta Works.
The number of officials and foremen is 100 and that of the workmen 1,200. Within
the last few years the Company has purchased large grounds at Avesta and erected
a great number of substantial and conveniently arranged dwellinghouses for their
officials and workmen. The Company has had a clearly visible influence on the
neighbouring town of Avesta, a large proportion of its 6,000 inhabitants earning a direct
livelihood from the iron industry, and a great number of the remainder making their
living by supplying the wants of the former.
