"THE SWEDISH BANK
OF COMMERCE"

dates back to 1747, and has for generations been established as one of the very
cornerstones on which rests the structure of Swedish industrial enterprise.

To the right, the whole block is occupied by the Head Office, partly of quite recent
construction, of SVENSKA HANDELSBANKEN, ("The Swedish Bank of Commerce").

There is an undeniable interest attached to the coincidence by which the
Headquarters of these two Institutions are situated opposite one another,-neighbours across
the way. For both Institutions are, each in its own sphere, indispensable to the
country, and the fact of their being individually of national importance involves an
obvious mutual relationship.

The words " Swedish steel" ring with a meaning of their own. Based on great
natural resources as well as on the century-old tradition of never-surpassed excellence in
’quality and workmanship, the Swedish iron-, steel- and machinery-production,
keeping pace with modern industrial demands, is not only of vital importance to Sweden
herself, but essential to the world at large.

The relation of Svenska Handelsbanken to the steel and iron industries of Sweden
is twofold. Historically speaking, the role played by the Handelsbank in the general
economic development of the country has necessarily brought the Bank into close
contact with what is one of the country’s staple industries, the financial functions of the
