■ Christiania.
Observatoriegade paa Drammensveien. Bygningerne
fuldførtes og toges i Brug 1833. Observatoriet med
dets Samling af Instrumenter kan besees, naar man
henvender sig derom til dets Vagtmester, som har
Bolig paa Stedet. Paa en Høide i den omgivende Park
er opført et magnetisk jernfrit Observatorium.
Det meteorologislee Institut, som oprettedes i 1866,
bestyres af Universitetslæreren i Meteorologi. Dc
Morgenobservationer, som ere gjorte paa de forskjellige
Stationer i Landet, meddeles Institutet gjennem
Tele-graplien og opslaaes tilligemed en Udsigt over Dagens
Veir og de fra Udlandet modtagne Meddelelser ved
Opgangen til Telegraphcontoret. Institutet, der har
Lokale i Nordahl Bruns Gade, kan besees hver Dags
Formiddag.
Den botaniske Have er paa Gaarden Tøi en ved
Throndhjemsveien. Til Haven, som indeholder en stor
Del uden- og indenlandske Træer, Buske og Planter,
deriblandt en temmelig fuldstændig Samling af norske,
navnlig Høifjeldsplanter, hører tvende Væxthuse. I
Gaar-dens gamle Hovedbyguing har Universitetslæreren i
Botanik og Gartnerne Bolig. Haven er aaben for
Publikum hele Dagen; for at faa Adgaug til Væxtliusene,
maa man henvende sig til en af Gartnerne.
12. UodNfængfllet er et Cellefængsel for
mandlige Fanger, opført efter Architekt Schirmer’s
Tegninger, paa Grønlandsleret, i Nærheden af Grønlands Kirke,
i Aarene 1845—1857. Foran den egentlige
Fængsels-bygning, som er omgiven af en høi Ringmur, ligger
tre mindre Bygninger. I den midterste er, foruden
Værelser for endel af Opsynet m. m., Indgang til Fængslet,
functionary who resides in the basement of the main
building of the University directly opposite to the
„Ship house". — In the part of the grounds at the back
of the library there are three Runic stones: one from
the parish of Tune in Smaalenene, another from Bø,
in the parish of Sogndal, and the third from Skaalvold,
in the district of Lister.
The Chemical Laboratory, which until recently was
in the centre edifice, has been removed to a building
specially erected for it at the back of the University.
The Observatory, the foundation stone of which
was laid in 1831, is in the western suburb of the town,
in close proximity to the Drammensvei. The
Observatory, with its collection of instruments, may be
inspected on applying to the „Vagtmester", who Jives on
the spot. On an eminence in the adjoining grounds there
isa Magnetic Observatory, constructed entirely of wood.
The Meteorological Institute, etablished in 1866 —
is placed under tbe direction of the Professor of
meteorologi. The observations taken at the home stations
in the early morning are forwarded per telegraph to
the Institute, and are posted up at the entrance to the
Telegraph Office, together with all communications
arriving from abroad; and the probable state of the
weather during the day. The Institute, which is in
Nordahl Bruns Gade, may be visited every forenoon.
The Botanical Gardens are at Tøi en, adjoining the
Throndhjemsvei. They are well arranged, and contain
a great variety of indegenous and foreign trees, shrubs,
and plants; the collection of Norwegian plants being
tolerably complete, in particular those comprised in
