easily being obtained from the innumerable iron mines in this part of the country,
usually, although incorrectly, termed the middle of Sweden. In the course of time
Bergslaget acquired a considerable number of iron works; the manufacture, at the
beginning of the 19:th century, being carried on at no less than 20 such places.
This method of carrying on the industry, however, proved in the long run, very
uneconomical, and in the year 1873, consequently, this manufacture was concentrated
at the Domnarvet Iron Works, which was established at that time on the banks of
the River Dal.

Later on, this industry was much extended by the purchase of other iron and steel
works, so that at present the Company is the owner of 6 such establishment, each with
