turned into about 35,000—40,000 standards comprising the following classes of goods: Deals,
battens and boards, planed boards, fire wood ends, box boards, staves, slating battens,
mouldings, laths, broomhandle squares, rounded broomhandles.

WOOD PULP.

For the purpose of utilizing the waste from the sawn timber there was erected
in 1894 at Skutskar a sulphate wood pulp mill. This has since been enlarged and
has, at present, a capacity of about 18,000 tons of air dried sulphate pulp of the
very best quality. In 1900 there was built a factory for the production of sulphite
wood pulp, this having now a capacity of 22,000 tons yearly.

PAPER.

It was considered that those wood products that could not be employed at Skutskar
ought, however, to be utilized, and for this purpose there was established in 1897—1900
a large paper mill at Kvarnsveden, three miles above the Domnarvet Iron & Steel Works.
These mills are among the largest of the kind in Europe and have the most modern
mechanical equipment. The raw material is provided by a mechanical pulp mill and a
sulphite mill which are run in connection with the paper mill. The yearly
production is about 45,000 tons news and wrapping paper which has an established reputation
as being of first class quality.

The residual lyes at the cellulose works at Skutskar and Kvarnsveden were
formerly allowed to run off as waste, but special factories for their utilization have now
