been erected at both places. At the sulphite works ethyl alcohol (sulphite spirit) is the
principal by-product, about 1,300,000 litres (about 165,000 gallons) of the purest quality
being obtained yearly. Other important products, such as turpentine and liquid rosin
are obtained at Skutskar.
WATERFALLS AND RAILWAYS.
The motive power required for all these industrial establishments is supplied by
waterfalls which belong entirely or in part to Bergslaget. The Company owns
waterfalls with a total capacity of 200,000 HP., of which amount, at present, about 80,000
HP. have been mounted. This is, even for an industrial enterprise of such magnitude
as Bergslaget, very considerable resourses of power.
The Company has also procured shares in the railways which supply the means
of transport of material to and from its various establishments.
ORGANIZATION.
The present organization of this extensive industrial enterprise was adopted in
1888, when the business was transformed into a modern limited company. At that date
the old shares were exchanged for new ones, the share capital at that time being
9,600,000 Kronor which sum was increased in 1907 to 12,000,000 kronor and again,
in 1917, to 36,000,000 kronor. By new issues of shares in 1919 and 1920, the total
share capital was brought up to 60,000,000 kronor at which sum it still remains. In
addition, the various funds of the Company amount to 45,000,000 kronor.
