THE forests covering the Småland highlands in the south of Sweden consist to a
very great extent of spruce-fir which, in that part of the country, makes a very
suitable timber for the manufacture of wrood pulp. A considerable number of wood
pulp mills, consequently, have been established in the province in question, one of
the most important being that of the KONGA Company, situated in Konga, in the
government-district of Kronoberg, the greater part of its timber supplies lying in
Småland.
The Company was established in 1888 with a capital of 350,000 kronor. The
production amounted to 3,000 tons per year but, since that date, the business has
gradually been extended, so that the capital now amounts to 1,800,000 kronor. The
Company’s Works at Ivonga consist of a sulphite mill, a saw mill and a distillery for
the production of sulphite spirit.
The sulphite mill, which, during the last two years, has been enlarged and
brought up-to-date, embraces two boilers, three pyrite furnaces, a drying machine, a wet
