Program Notes
Four transmissions in English are
directed daily to the United Kingdom
and. Europe. The times and fre-
quencies of programs broadcast in
these transmissions are outlined on
the chart in the centre of this booklet.
News and Commentary
News. Canadian and international
news bulletins are broadcast four
times daily.
Daily Commentaries Following
News (except Saturdays). This
four - minute topical commentary
follows bulletins to Europe at 2200
GMT. Sundays: ‘Quebec Commen-
tary’ by Robert Choquette, out-
standing Canadian poet, novelist,
radio playwright, and member of
L’Academie Ronsard, talks about life
and activities in French Canada;
Mondays: “U.N. Commentary” by
King Gordon, CBC correspondent at
United Nations; Tuesdays: ‘Eastern
Commentary”, notes from Ontario
and the Maritimes ; Wednesdays:
“Western Commentary”, a weekly
analysis of current affairs as seen by
observers west of Winnipeg; Thurs-
days: “Ottawa Commentary”, high-
lights from the 21st session of the
Canadian Parliament from Canada’s
capitol; Fridays: ‘U.N. Commentary”
by King Gordon, CBC correspondent
at United Nations.
Midweek Commentary (Wednes-
days). Authoritative speakers discuss
political topics of current importance.
Weekend Commentary (Saturdays).
A Saturday review of events in
Canada and abroad for the preceed-
ing week. Alternating commentators
help to give a balanced point of view.
Actualities and Interviews
Canadian Chronicle (Monday to
Saturday). CBC reporters from
coast to coast in Canada contribute
to this program which is broadcast
twice daily.

Canadians at Work (Fridays). A
series of documentary programs de-
picting Canadian employment and
production methods.
Cross Section (Sundays). A series
of programs which presents repre-
sentative Canadians to listeners
abroad. Men and women from every
phase of Canadian life are inter-
viewed by reporters in various cities
across Canada. November 6, Percy
Newman of Ottawa interviews ambu-
lance driver George Geer.
Magazine Programs
Farm Report (Wednesdays). Hugh
Boyd, Ottawa parliamentary corres-
pondent for the Winnipeg Free Press,
and agricultural correspondent for the
CBC International Service, reviews
food production in Canada and is
assisted by reports from CBC Farm
Department and freelance commen-
tators across the country.
Women in the New World (Satur-
days). This series includes stories of
Canadian women, their careers, hob-
bies, problems and interests. Each
week two or more speakers contrib-
ute to this program on women’s
activities.
Canadian Primer, or the ABC of
Canada (Sundays). A kindergarten
course in the fundamental facts
about Canada. The class includes
children” from all parts of Canada.
From November 6 to November 27
the course will run from Apples to
Dominion.
History and Current Affairs
The Canadian Story (Mondays).
Frank Edwards begins a new series
called “Tales of the St. Lawrence”.
In this series he tells some of the
legends and stories which are known
to the inhabitants of the towns and
cities along the banks of the St.
Lawrence River. November 7, The
story of “Chateau Bigot’; Novem-
ber 14, The legend of ‘Le Chien
d’Or”, an old story cherished by the
