Schellenberg’s Story
Lübeck, at which he asked you to present an offer
of surrender to the Western powers, to be
transmitted through the Swedish Government. It was
then that he said it could only be “a question of
one, two, or at most three days before the Führer
ends his dynamic life in this dramatic struggle.”
According to my calculations the life of the
Führer ended on April 27th, and it is my definite
belief that it was by means of an injection.
However, I do not know who it was that administered
it to him.
The events in Berlin on the following day,
April 28th, are probably not generally known. It
is certain, however, that Grand Admiral Dönitz’s
nomination as Hitler’s successor took place on the
29th. There are also fairly certain grounds for
believing that it was Reichsleiter Bormann who
made the nomination. It was the last move against
Himmler. Himmler realized that capitulation was
unavoidable, and that for this reason he had been
pushed aside.
