I flew to my sepulchral home, I used to meet
large bands of angels returning from the crowded
city, where in dreams they had been visiting
their friends, those who still were sorrowing for
their departed loved ones ; and with the earliest
beams of day hastened other hosts of dimly
visible spirits to the haunts of men, charged
with the mission, if not repelled, to impress good
and holy thoughts upon their hearts and brains
in the fevered strife of life. And the angels that
return heavenward with the waning night, and
those that come with the dawn of day, wave
their expanded wings to each other as they
meet, by way of recognition; and that creates
the morning breeze so delightful to inhale."
" Well, what do you say, children ; perhaps
the bat is not such a despicable creature, after
all ? " I said.
" Good little bat, good-bye," said the girl.
" Well, the way he looks upon the world is
certainly new to me. I never thought of that
before," rejoined the boy.
