Journey from Gothenburg to Stockholn—Trolhitta: the Cataraéis,
and the Canal, which is a most extraordinary Work—Some gene-
ral Remarks. occafioned by this Canal—Book of Infcriptions kept
at Trolhatta—Face of the Country between Trolhitta and Stock-
holn—Agriculture in that Difiriét, and its Produce—Mode of

“HE journey from Gothenburg to Trolhatta, a distance of
b about fifty miles, is often made by the Gothenburghers in
the fummer feafon as a jaunt of pleafure. Going out of the town
you proceed along the banks of the river Gotha, from which
Gothenburg derives its name. After advancing about three miles,
you leave behind you, on the right bank of the river, the small
fortrefs of Bohus, situated on the fummit of a rock. The re-
mainder of the road to Trolhitta is partly level and good, in fome
places hilly and unpleafant; and part of it lies acrofs roundifh
and flippery rocks. There is only one place where one can be
comfortably lodged: this is Eded, about thirty miles from Go-
thenburg, on the fide of the Gotha, It is aftonifhing that on
