According to
the above pa«
pers, Seiland is
composed of the
following se«
quence of rocks:
The northern
and eastern part
of the island is
built up by a
mica«gneiss,
which alternates
with hornblendic,
micaceous and
quartzose schists.
The strike of the
strata is N—S.
These are the
oldest rocks of
the island.
Along the southern shore the predominant rock is a greyish gneiss
with red garnets, superposing the mica«gneiss. Overlaying the garnet«
bearing gneiss we find mica«schists rich in quartz and quartzose schists in
the eastern parts of Seiland. The youngest strata are situated in the
southwest part of the island and consists of hornblendic schists together
with crystalline limestone. It is possible that this limestone has a wider
