The President Mr. Collijn warmly approved the recommendations contained
in the report. He did not think, however, that the feeling that the Rome Congress
was organised wholly for the librarians of great reference and scientific libraries
was justified. There were, on the contrary, presented for discussion as many
topics concerning public libraries as it was possible to include.
The general Secretary Mr. Sevensma was very much in favour of the proposai
put forward by Miss Margaret Demchevsky to establish an international information
bureau on public libraries. He would be ready to centralise in Geneva literature on
the subject and thus establish the beginnings of a bibliographical centre on thèse
questions.
b) Sous-Commission d’échanges de bibliothécaires. Rapport de M. Bishop,
présenté par Miss B o gle.
Miss BoGLE presented the «Report of the Committee on exchange of
librarians» (voir annexe V).
In addition to this Report, Miss Bogie stated that the great difïiculty was
al-ways whether the person exchanged could live on the salary she received in the place
where she was employed.
Dr. Uhlendahl teilt mit, dass die Deutsche Bücherei in Austauschbeziehungen
mit Bibliotheken in Dortrecht, Amsterdam, Wien und Budapest steht. Ein
Austausch mit Spanien und Irland ist geplant. Die Deutsche Bücherei legt besonderes
Gewicht auf die Mitarbeit von Austauschbibliothekaren in ihrem Betrieb, da sie ja
neben dem deutschen Schrifttum des Inlandes auch das deutsche Schrifttum des
Auslandes sammeln muss und dies durch Mithilfe von Kräften aus dem Ausland
sehr erleichtert wird. Was die finanzielle Seite des Austausches betrifft, so behält
der ins Ausland geschickte deutsche Bibliothekar seinen Gehalt bei, erhält überdies
einen Zuschuss sowie die Kosten der Hin- und Rückreise von der «Gesellschaft der
Freunde der Deutschen Bücherei» ersetzt.
Dr. Teichl bringt zur Kenntnis, dass in diesem Jahr zum vierten mal ein
Austausch zwischen deutschen und österreichischen Bibliotheken stattgefunden hat.
Die österreichische Regierung zahlt den österreichischen Austauschbibliothekaren
einen Zuschuss.
Le Secrétaire général M. Sevensma se déclare prêt à centraliser les offres et
demandes d’échanges de bibliothécaires. Il prie de lui adresser toutes communications
à ce sujet et il les fera publier dans les périodiques professionnels de bibliothécaires.
M. Sevensma se mettra à ce sujet en rapport avec M. Bishop.
Le Président M. Collijn remercie Miss Bogie des intéressantes
communications et la prie de transmettre les remerciements du Comité à MM. Milam et Bishop.
c) Sous-Commission d’écoles professionnelles. Proposition de M. Henriot.
présentée par M. Lemaître.
M. Lemaître présente la proposition de M. Henriot concernant un Institut
international des bibliothécaires (voir annexe VI). M. Lemaître rappelle les grands
