obvious cause o! the disappearance conld nol be detected, hut in spite
of the mobility of the trichomes the conditions were hardly optimal.
The cells frequently contain 1—3 (very rarelv 4) cyanophycin
granules, which often lie near the walls or in terminal cells near the
gasvacuoles.
The behaviour and structure of the new alga very much remind
of Oscillatoria (the terminal cells, the occurrence of localized
gasvacuoles. the movements). The characters distinguishing Oscillatoria and
Pseudanabaena |the separated cells, the distinct chromoplasma) are not
very important. as many species of Oscillatoria are constricted at the
transversal walls and some of them mav also have a distinct
chromoplasma. Hence, it wonld perhaps be justilied to regard Pseudanabaena
as a snbgenus of Oscillatoria.
