host. In the actual case we must conclude that the cod in question probably
lived in shallow water for so long time as it takes for the alga to grow 1 mm
long, for in other cases the alga had hardly developed so well on the parasite.

Furthermore, by studying the occurrence of epizoic algae as well as
epizoic animals on crustaceans, one can form an opinion 011 the time of
moulting of these animals. If the time of the spreading of the spores or the
time of the appearance of larvae of epizoic animals are known, one gets the
minimum time that has elapsed since the last moult of the host, lf the time
of possible infection is not restricted to a short period only, knowledge of
the rate of growth of the algae or the epizoic animals will help us in the same
way. On the other hand, if one knows the time of moulting of an epizoic
animal and the rate of growth of an epizoic alga or animal, one can ascertain
the time of infection. From a single find, however, only very lew conclusions
can be drawn in these respects.

Martornet (Eryngium maritimum) upptäckt på Gotska Sandön.

Under etl studiebesök i zoologiskt syfte på Gotska Sandön den 25 juli
1945 vistades jag huvudsakligen i östra delen av ön. Från Kyrkuddens fyr
vandrade jag söderut längs dynkusten förbi Franska bukten, då jag blev varse
ell exemplar av martornet (Eryngium maritimum), som växte några tiotal 111
