pa City of Stockholm is a well built town tho’ badly
paved, It is farrounded by the Baltic fea and lake
Meller at their confluence. It is governed by two Burgo-
mafters and twenty-four» Rodmen or Aldermen. The
King’s Palace is magnificent. The Exchange is allo a
good and {pacious building, the refort of many capital
merchants. ‘The Churches here are fuperbly decorated
with a great variety of {plendid ornaments. .The people
fhew you much politenefs, and drefs in a flile refembling
that of the Spaniards. The almoft obfolete French fafhion
is fill in praétice among the men, as they feldom meet
but they falute each other.
The day after our arrival we dined at a Tavern, remark-
able for dirt and bad accommodation, In the evening
we went to the Opera; the houfe is a handfome building,
