inclined to give you Thompfon’s beautiful defeription of
the Scenes I have been defcribing. There is another ad-
vantage, I intend from this long quotation ; and thatis, if
my reflegtions do not.corroborate the fentiments of the
Poet, the Poet will at leaft juflify and illuftrate my reflec-
tions. After defcribing the “ martial hordes” of the north,
this Poet of Nature proceeds,
« Not fuch the Sons of Lapland: wifely they
© Defpife th’ infenfate barbarous trade of war;
« They afk no more than fimple nature gives,
«© They love their mountains, and enjoy their florms,
« No falfe defires, no pride-created wants,
« Diflurb the peaceful current of their time ;_
« And thro’ the refllefs “ever tortured maze
« Of Pleafure or Ambition, bid it rage.
«Their Rein-deer form their riches. Thefe their tents
« Their robes, their beds, and all their homely wealth
« Supply, their wholefome fare and chearful cups.
