only the poorest people live. The women up there say
dreadful things to us, believing that we cannot
understand them, and laugh to themselves. And when, in
order to curb their arrogance, I show them that I have
understood, they become all the worse and shout still
more abusive things after us. I grow angry and use
an evil word myself; they bend down to pick up stones.
We hurry down the mountain side, pursued by oaths
and pebbles.
