20. Callings.
I am a workman. I work
eight hours a day in a factory.
— How much a week do you
earn? — We are not very well
paid. Business is bad. I only
earn fifty or sixty kronor a
week. It doesn’t go very far.
Everything is much dearer
now, than it was before the
war. Some of my pals say
we ought to strike, if we don’t
get a rise (if we are not better
paid). — Are you going to
strike then? — I don’t know.
It depends. We are going to
put it to the vote. Some of
my friends are worse off than I.
They have been »locked out».
But they are negotiating, and
I hope they will come to terms.
I am a shop assistant. Trade
is fairly good. We have a lot
of customers. I try to be very
obliging to the customers, and
find what they want.
Sometimes they are very trying,
when they want me to show
them everything we have in
stock, and then go away
without buying anything.
I am a clerk. My office is
in the High Street. I keep
the accounts (am a typewriter,
