Anm. 1. Genom impf. i bisatsen framhålles (liksom i
svenskan och tyskan) det uppställda villkorets overklighet,
t. ex. If it were in my power, I should assist you. -
Bisatsens fogeord kan utelämnas (hvarvid ordföljden blir
omvänd), då predikatsverbet är ett hjälpverb (se 169 c), t. ex.
Were it (had it beenj in my power, I should assist (have
assisted) you. Did I but know how to obtain a better place!
- Så äfven i koncessiv-satser, t. ex. Be he who he may.
Anm. 2. Imperf. konj. får ej begagnas i hufvudsatsen i st. f.
konditionalis (såsom ibland i svenskan och tyskan), t. ex. He would
certainly come, if he were allowed (han komme säkert o. s. v.). Dock
brukas ibland had och were i st. f. should (would} have o. s. v.,
äfvensom impf. could, would, might, ought tillsammans med en infinitiv i
konditional betydelse, t. ex. It were useless, if you would tell it him.
You could learn as well as I, if you would take pains - Undantagsvis
står äfven ibland plusqpf. konj i st. f. andra konditionalis, t ex. I had
gone, if the weather had been better.
4) jämförelsesatser, inledda med as if, as though, som
om (någon gång äfven ensamt as), t. ex. It seemed as if he
were (was) dreaming. Hit hör uttrycket as it were (så att
säga, liksom), t. ex. In books we find the dead as it were
living.
5) finalsatser, t. ex. Judge not, that you be not judged.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty.
Vanligen brukas may eller should.
6) temporalsatser, inledda genom before, ere, till, until,
t. ex. Act before it be too late. He should not go till all
be paid.
Jfr They kept concealed till danger was over. He wished to set
out before it should begin to rain.
7) bisatser, beroende af verb (eller i allmh. uttryck),
som beteckna ett viljande, t. ex. Pray Heaven it last. See
