Pp” by side the tug-boat and the barge No. 3

were jogging along, the latter deeply laden with
quarry stones and gravel. Ugly and awkward looked
the barge, with its broad sides bearing evident marks
of having been roughly handled; but the smart
little steamer was spruce and newly painted dark
green, with a yellow stripe all round, and had its
name, Ready, painted in bold white letters on each
side of its prow.

summer day, and felt itself perspiring with steam
from the exertion of the pull, but it was compelled
