BILAGOR

I would willingly accompany you whenever I can find time.
Take now my best wishes! — Before I go to Jul at Upsala
I hope to see you. For the moment I can wish you no greater
pleasure than that of s e e i n g the Sun at this time of
year.

My best greetings to your husband and the boys — little
Geijer included 1 —

Your loving uncle
E. G. Geijer.

Saturday.

Suffering childhood was always to me the saddest
of sights. D y i n g childhood not so. At least I think so. For
I never saw a child give up its puré soul and I never lost one
myself — so perhaps I have no right to speak ön the subject.

Still, I must tell you that the heavenly sight of which
you speak — the dying child raising his hands and eyes
to the sky with an expression of life and hope from above, is
so impressive, that to me its puré light falls softening even
upon the stern gloom of a mothers grief.

I always thought that true consolation cannot come to
the grief — it must come o ut of the grief itself, as
an ängel emerging from the deep. So it will with you. For
you have seen a puré soul breathe its last, and a möre
celestial sight is not to be seen ön earth.

God be with you! —

I write you this ön the day of my o w n New Year which

makes me s i x t y b u t one — so, if getting old is getting"
