Venerated & beloved friend in the Lord!
The fear of intruding on your increasingly valuable time,
connected with my own multifarious engagements at this period has
prevented my waiting on you for the last few weeks, though I had
much to relate from Helsingland which I know would gratify you.
I take therefore this method of informing you, that I had the
other day a reply from Br. Rahmn to the request which encouraged
by your kind and unreserved consent, I addressed him, soliciting his
ministrations at the opening of the new Chapel. Br. Rahmn, as we
could have expected, had no objection to the proposal but shewed
by a detail of his present circumstances the impossibility of his
coming to Stockholm this autumn.
I am happy to say, that by the pure Christian love of two
servants of Christ each highly distinguished in his own way, I shall
notwithstanding obtain what I wished from Rahmn, viz. a public
testimony that the sanctuary in question is neither sectarian nor
dangerous to the Swedish National Church. And knowing as I do
your anxiety to promote peace & goodwill, I am fully persuaded
you will rejoice to know, that Pastor Brandell from the most
Northern Diocese in Sweden, and Dr Thomander from the most
Southern, have in the true spirit of Evangelical piety agreed to preach
in the new Chapel, the former on Saturday the 24th, the latter on
Sabbath the 25th of this month.
I sincerely hope the season of misunderstanding is passing for
ever away, when not only such men as the above named come
forward with their unbiassed testimony in favour of genuine Catholicity
but when even Messrs Ekdahl & Ternström have openly resumed
the gauntlet they unadvisedly threw down, and engaged to cease
from opposing my proceedings. It only remains for me, by the
grace of God to walk worthy of the Confidence reposed in me, and
exhibit more & more the entire disinterestedness & beneficial
tendency of my operations, and long as I live or labour I shall never
forget, that it was the then Bishop of Götheborg who was the first
