HANDLINGAR TILL GEORGE SCOTTS VERKSAMHET I SVERIGE I 6 7
a question with the Swedish Government whether an humble, pious,
unobtrusive Wesleyan Missionary from England shall be tolerated to
preach the gospel to Swedish Subjects; but whether he shall be
allowed to proceed any further, now that he has become identified
with the plans and measures of America affecting the religious state
of Sweden.
The Committee are of opinion that it will be desirable for you
before very long to come over to England, that we may converse with
you at length, and consider what is best to be done. In the
meantime, you are requested to give us the fullest possible information
of your circumstances. The reasons which led you to shut up the
chapel were doubtless sufficient in your own judgment, but explain
them more fully to the committee. Say also whether you could
leave with propriety while the question to which you have referred
as under inquiry respecting yourself — I mean the allegations
preferred against you — are under consideration in the Courts. We
wish perfectly to understand your whole case.
In conclusion, I again assure you of our affectionate sympathy
with you, and our disposition to interpose on your behalf, when that
can be done with hope of success. May the Divine blessing and
protection still be vouchsafed to you, and all your troubles be
overruled for good.
For colleagues and self I remain yours affectionately:
J. Beecham.
P. S. Please to send copies of any Statements or Documents
you may have sent to the British Ambassador, the Swedish
Authorities or any other parties. And if you still think we ought to
memorialize Lord Aberdeen so send us a draught of a memorial, for
we have not materials sufficient to enable us to construct one.

Herr Pastor!
Herr t. f.
