HANDLINGAR TILL GEORGE SCOTTS VERKSAMHET I SVERIGE I 6 7
a document of considerable importance in this matter, and is
therefore appended.1 The Consistory at the same time forwarded to the
High Court certain charges made by the Rev. J. N. Ekdahl, Rector
of Adolph Fredriks Church in 1839, t>ut ’he*1 at ’he desire of the
ArchBishop dropped, though now resumed by Mr. E.’s urgent request.
The charges are of a most frivolous character, and frivolous as they
are could not be supported by evidence, they are as follows.’ And
an addition was afterwards made that Scott had on Palm-Sunday
1840 preached on the subject of the Lord’s Supper doctrine at
variance with the Lutheran creed. On receiving the documents the
High Court referred them to their Attorney General, to report as to
whether they were such as that Court could take cognizance of. His

requested to enter the study he refused, but demanded that he
should come out to him in the Lobby. This the Missionary did
not deem it prudent to do, and Br. Edwards kindly going to meet
the intruder and see him out, was struck a violent blow on the head.
On the 4th of March a man called on the Missionary with the
whole edition of an absurd carricature asking if he would purchase
it, and thus prevent (rather only delay) its coming out; this of course
was declined and this new engine was left to work on the already

the play of »The Jesuit»5 appeared at the Minor Theatre. The
imitation of Scott was said to be so correct, that the crowded
audience were in extasies. This was the most Satanic stroke of all,
for »The Jesuit» being guilty of the most fearful immoralities, and
crimes, the impression produced by the likeness was that the
Missionary was such a guilty one. It was most evident that this per-
