was delightful to see him. I do not think any one of us will forget the
moment when he, with tears, stepped before those assembled, and with
his whole heart praised the Lord for His great mercy, and the precious
Gospel through which he was now enabled to believe that he had the
forgiveness of his sins. It was indeed a peculiar and a pleasing sight
to see a minister weep for joy at having his sins forgiven. It made a
deep impression on all assembled. I pass by much of interest that
passed among the common people, and only mention what appears to
me the greatest wonder, when any of the nobles, or the worldly-wise,
are called, as the Lord Himself has proclaimed that there would not be
many such. I went from thence to Wrigstad, another headquarter for
the Home Mission in the province of Smoland. There also pleasant
experiences. One place that had been open to us, the house of Mrs. W.,
will soon be shut up in consequence of the arrival of another clergyman,
who is inimical to our Meetings; but then the Lord has inclined the
heart of another person, whose wife has become pious, to offer us his
spacious hall. Five or six clergymen from the neigboring parishes
came to our meetings in this place. In the town of Linköping, to which
I afterwards proceeded, I found great changes going on. Many who
have known only Moses, now know Christ. Some of the high and
mighty have come down and joined the despised party of the Nazarenes.
We had an excellent locality for our meetings at a large countryhouse
in the neighborhood, belonging to a rich man who loves the truth;
and our old persecutor, the clergyman Ryden, now left us alone, not
succeeding the last time, when he even appealed to the Governor of
the province to assist him in molesting us. I went to various other
places, and have reason to thank God for all His gracious support,
and the work that is going on."

Here we finish the extract from Mr. Ahnfelt’s letter, since you
have seen by what has been said how he goes on from place to place,
amid various experiences of the word of the Lord on souls. I will
rather give you an extract from a letter I have just received from our
friend Dr. Bergman of Winslöf, containing an interesting account of
the progressive movements in that part of the country, which he partly
ascribes to the agency of Mr. Ahnfelt. He writes thus: "The Spirit
of the Lord had been at work for some time in our neighborhood,
imperceptibly to most lookers on, as long as only some women of the
lower classes seemed to be affected by it, but now the scene is changed.
The Lord’s " drawing " seems to become stronger; some of the
principal Ladies in the town of Christianstad have begun to show themselves
at the Evangelical Meetings held by the distinguished ministers Ehdahl
and Cavallin, and even some officers, from the regiments garrisoned
there, are now and then seen from behind the pillars of the house of
God. From the country it begins to sound like half a storm. You know
that Mr. Ahnfelt has been in our neighbourhood several times as well
