MEDDELANDEN’ OCH AKTSTYCKEN

grace. But the King hoped at the next Diet to succed in having adopted
laws of a more liberal and free spirit. At the Diet now in session, our
King has indeed presented to the States a proposition with the above
mentioned tendency, but the success thereof is not yet decided.—Though
there are still many hindrances to the wished for reform of our
legislation, there are also many signs which show that such a reformation
is at hand. Sooner or later we will have religious liberty, even here.

The activity of brother Ahnfelt is going on almost as before,
except perhaps with the difference that in places where they have fears
for separatistical views, they are not so willing as before to receive
him. But as a great part of the awakened and the Christians in our
country, have more liberal views, he has always a good number of
auditors.—Owing to this he can continue to travel and work as before.
Besides the annual meetings of Tract Societies in the south of Sweden
which he visited immediately after the departure of our friend, the Rev.
Mr. Scott, speaking and preaching in the name of the Lord, he
afterwards made shorter or longer journeys, of which he speaks in a newly
arrived letter, as follows:

" First I directed my way to Denmark, where I have still a little
mission to take care of, and afterwards along the eastern coast of my
native land, where many stations were visited, till I came to Stockholm,
the second time that summer. Having visited Gefle, I returned to the
south, passing through Gottenburg on the western coast,
Westergötland and Smaland, to my home in Carlshamn. After a fortnight’s rest,
I again made an excursion for six weeks to Scania. Denmark, and the
south-western parts of Smaland. I am now here again in my house,
but intend in some days to make a longer tour to the North, and later
in the summer, if it be God’s will, to Norway, to which country I have
had my pressing calls. Everywhere on my journeys, I have witnessed
an increasing desire of hearing the Word of God."

As much as it be possible in a short letter, I have now tried to
give you a view of the state of things among us. If it be God’s will,
I intend to write to you again after a couple of months. May God
bless you.

Most truly yours, C. O. Rosenius.

Stockholm, June 27th, [i860].1

Rev. Dr. Fairehild, New-York:

Before I set out for a journey to the northern parts of the country,
I hasten to give you some brief accounts of the most important things
