a fauourable answere in publique not disproouinge any thinge in
the worke nor in my proceedings but deferringe the resolucon to
further occasions, neuerthelesse towards the Lords and others of the
Clergy abroad. The resolucon of this assembly by his meanes hath
beene otherwise giuen vp, soe that diuers euill reports haue beene
raysed and spread abroad onely to hinder that the vnblameable
proceedinges, and the lawfull meanes of agreement w:ch I haue
giuen them of the assembly vp in writinge and w:ch were not
disallowed by any, should not take a deepe Impression vpon mens
harts and gaine a full assent and applause to the worke, but I hope
by Gods grace to double out the righteousnes of my proceedings
against his slannders before the Lord Channcelkr who from tyrne
to tyrne hath alwayes beene sufficient enformed of all my doeinges,
and hath hitherto taken the whole matter seriously to heart and
shewed himselfe very propitious to further the equitie of my
In-tencons.

Thus euery thinge doth not goe at all tymes alike smooth, and
a worke of such a nature subiect to soe many Jealousies and
sus-picons of men that are not wholly void of partiality, cannot passe
without rubbes and difficulties, but it is good that god hath made
malice to bee blinde, soe that it can doe nothing against the truth
of sincere and godly endeauour[s] without encurringe such absurdities
whereby it doth ouerthrowe its owne Intencons, and betrayeth ye
vnreasonablenes of him that doth feed it. Thus I am confident it
will fall out heere, If euer this matter of opposition cast in against
mee bee taken into Consideration by equitable Iudges, To w:ch I
purpose to bringe it, for it is not a matter of verball disputes and
schoole Controuersy but of cleere fact; pray for mee that as I striue
to keep in all things a good Conscience, and walke openly before
god & man soe I may be p[re]serued from euill tongues, euill
surmises and from all occasion of scandall giuen by mee from
whence such euills may rise vp against my worke. Sententia
Aber-doniensis is a very substantiall writinge and I purpose to make good
vse of it, towards the vniuersity of Vpsall.

Stockholme [19 Aug. 1937].

To answere all the p[ar]ticulars of your seuerall large letters is
impossible at this tyrne. You see by the enclosed that my busines
doth begin to find opposition. Satan is afrayd it should goe quietly
forward and therefore findeth Instruments to picke a quarrell against
