Traf schon meine Wahl.
Glückes falsche Lust
Giebt nicht Ruh’ der Brust.
Ach! des Glückes Hauch
Blendet unser Aug’.
Glück schweift ohne Wahl,
Fliehet überall,
Wo die Seele fand
Schutz in Gottes Hand.
Doch ein edler Sinn
Geht durch Stürme hin,
Unbeirrt von irdischem Gewinn.
Und des Glückes Sonnenlicht:
Hüllt es denn dem Menschen nicht
Das Gebot der heil’gen Pflicht?
Baut auf schwachem Grund?
