Though heaven’s high tent shall be uprolled,
And earthly things shall vanish,
God’s Word, by holy men enscrolled,
No power can hide or banish.
By whatsoever evil thing
My soul be overtaken,
To Thee forever will I cling,
Eternal Rock unshaken.
Now I beseech Thee, Father dear,
To grant that I may cherish
Within my heart that faith sincere
Which shall not change or perish;
Then shall my soul depart in peace,
When called from life’s contentions,
To dwell with Thee without surcease
In heaven’s eternal mansions.

In 1535 Olavus Petri issued his "Admonition to All
Evangelical Preachers throughout Sweden"
(Formatting til alia Euangeliska Predicare offuer heela Swerige,
ther hwar och een Christtrogen Menniskia ma haffua
rettelse utaff, huru hon sigh skicka skal, ta Forfolielse
pakommer for Gudz Ord skull). In this exposition of
the tenth chapter of Matthew, dedicated to his brother
clergymen, he admonishes them to have firm faith in
the rightfulness and complete Scripturalness of the
evangelical cause, despite all difficulties. His work
closes with these words: "From peace and too much
