evaporated. The average value of the latter is 2.’"’" 15.
The following Tables contain the observations made,
and the values deduced therefrom, to determine the depth
of the water evaporated. The first column gives the day
and the hour, with a (morning) and p (evening), for ’ the
beginning and end of each experiment. In the following
columns T represents the interval of time, or the duration
of the experiment in hours; t the temperature of the outer
water at the beginning and the end; B the quantity of
• water poured from the burette, in cubic centimetres; C
the correction for the change in temperature of the outer
water, in cubic centimetres; R (but only in 1876) the
amount of fallen rain, in cubic centimetres, on a surface
equal to that of the atmometer; Q the corrected amount
of evaporation, in cubic centimetres; and H the depth of
evaporated water in the given interval of time. A signifies
the original atmometer, B the new instrument.
