Ved Godhed af Captein Hofimeyer. Bestyrer af det
danske meteorologiske Institut, erholdt jeg de midlere
maanedlige Barometerhøjder for Stykkisholm paa Island for
Tidsrummet 1857 til 1877. Til disse fejedes, efter den
danske meteorologiske Aarbog. Observationerne for 1878 til
1880. saa at der for Stykkisholm forelaa Barometerhöjder
for den 24-aarige Kække I «ST til 1880.

Efter den danske meteorologiske Aarbog beregnedes
Middelbaronieterliøjdeö for de islandske Stationer Akureyri
paa Nordkysten og Bernfjord paa Østkysten samt for
Thorshavn paa Fieroerne for Aarnekkeu 1874 til 18811. Disse
7-aarige Rækker reduceredes til Stykkishohiis 24-aarige. For
Thorshavns Vedkommende reduceredes ogsaa til Aalesunds
1 li-uarigc Bække, og toges Middel af begge Resultater.

For S Stationer i Danmark. Skagen. Fano og
Kjøbenhavn, toges Middolbaromoterstanden af det danske
meteorologiske Instituts Publicatiener (Aarbog og Danmarks
Klima).

De danske Observationer ere reducerede til
Norinal-barometret i Kjøbenhavn, der stemnier overens med Nor
liialharonietrene i St. Petersburg og Kew.

De normale Barouieterhojder for Skotland og de skotske
Oer ere tagne efter Buelians Afhandling i Journal of the
Scottish Meteorological Society So. LVIV. De ere
reducerede til Normalbar.....etret i Keiv.

Fra Spidsbergeii haves et Aars Observationer fra
Nordenskiülds Overvintring i Mosselbay (A. Wijkaiider:
Observations météorologiques de l’exiiédition arcticjue
sné-doise 1872- 73) og fra Smiths Observatorium i Isfjorden
(N.Ekliolni: l’cxpédition snodoise an Spitzberg 1882—1883).
Det svenske Xormalbaroineter i Stockholm er
overeiistem-nlende med ilet i St. Petersburg.

Fra Øst-Gl’önlnnd har jeg benyttet Oliservatiouerne
l’ra den anden tyske Xørd-Polar-Expedition. der
overvintrede ved Sabine-Øen 1809 til 711. (Zweito deutsche
Xoril-fahrt II. K. Koldewey. 4. Lnftdruck).

For Jan Maven har jeg benyttet Observationerne fra
deu østerrigske Polar-Station 1882—83. (E. v.
Wohlgemuth: Bericht etc.).

For Spidsberpsn. Øst-Grønland og Jan Mayen har
jeg kun benyttet Aarsniedierne.

Til Fuldstændiggjørelse af Kartet over det normale
Lufttryk har jeg medtaget samtlige norske Baroinetcrhøjder
samt nøgle svenske Stationer t Hamberg: Mäiiadsøfversigt
af Väderleken i Sverige) og nogle russiske (Wild: l’eber
die Beziehungen iswischen Isobaren und Isiinomalen der
Temperatur).

For at tinde den liorniale Barometerstand paa Havet
har jeg benyttet Hoffmeyers synoptiske Karter, der for hver
Dag Kl. 8 Morgen fra September 1873 til November 1870
give Baronieterhojdernes Fordeling over Nordhavet.

Alten (1871 April to 18S2 December), reduced ill the same
manner as stated above, aud likewise to the sixteen-vears
series 1867—1882.

By the courtesy of Capt. Hoffmeyer. Director of the
Danish Meteorological Institute. I obtained the mean monthly
heights of the barometer at Stykkisholm. Iceland, for the
period 1857 to 1877. To these were added, from «Dansk
meteorologisk Aarbog." the observations for 1878 to 188H:
and hence I had for Stykkisholm observations of the
barometer for the twenty-four-years series, viz.. front 18o7
til 1»80.

From "Dansk meteorologisk Aarbog" was computed
the mean height of the barometer for tile Icelandic Stations:
-Akureyri, on the north coast, and Berutjoril on the east,
as also for Thorshavn, on the Færoes, for the years
ranging from 1874 to 1880. Tilis seven-years series was reduced
to Stykkisholni’s twentv-four-years series. As regards
Thorshavn. the reduction was also made to Aalesand’s
sixteeil-years series, and a mean taken of the both results.

For 3 Stations in Denmark, viz.. Skagen [the Scawl.
Fano, and Copenhagen, the mean height ol’ the barometer
was taken from the Publications of the Danish
Meteorological Institute ("Aarbog" and «Danmarks Klima").

The Danish observations have been reduced to the
Standard-Barometer of Copenhagen, wllieh agrees with the
Standard-Barometers of St, Petersburgh and Kew .

Till- normal heights of the barometer for Scotland and

the Scottish Isles have been taken fl-..... Bnchan’s Memoir in

"Journal of tile Scottish Meteorological Society,’’ No. LVIV.
They are reduced to the Standard-Barometer of Kew .

For Spitzbergen we have a year’s observations, from
Nordenskiiild’s wintering in Mussel Bay (A. Wijkander:
Observations niétéornlogicpies de l’expéditiøn arctiipie suédoise

1872 1873), and from Smith’s Observatory in lee Sound
(N.Ekliolni: L’expéditiøn suédoise an Spitzberg 1882-1883).
The Swedish Standard-Barometer in Stockholm agrees with
that of St. Petersburgh.

For East Greenland, I have made use of the
observations taken on tile Second German North-Polar Expedition,
that wintered on Sabine Island 18611 -187(1 (Zweite
Deutsche Nordfalirt II. K. Koldewey. 4. Luftdruck).

For .Tan Mayen. I have applied the observations from
the Austrian Polar Station 1882—1883 (E. v. Wohlgemuth:
Bericht ete.i

For Spitzbergen, East Greenland, and Jan Mayen. 1
have applied only the annual mean.

To complete the map showing the normal atmospheric
pressure I took all the Norwegian barometric
observations, as also those from a few Swedish Stations
(Ham-berg: Mänadsflfversigt af Väderleken i Sverige), and a few
Russian i Willi: l eber die Beziehungen zwischen Isobaren
und Isanomalen der Temperatur).

With the object of finding tile normal height of tile
barometer at sea. I have employed Hoffmeyers Synoptical
Charts, that give for every day — 8a. m. — from September

1873 to November 187ti! tile’ distribution of the height of
the barometer over the North Ocean.
