danner et smalt, nøgent Helte, nu til hver Side er en
regelmæssig Række Zooider, der ligesom begræmlser VentralHaden,

paa Dorsalsidcn. staa længere fra hinanden, og hvor
di-stode til Sidecellerne, er der som oftest to ved Siden af
hinanden, ellers dannes Ha’kken kun af eukeltstanemle
Zooider. Imellem enkelte Cellcrækkcr sees Zooidcrne
at udfylde Rummet lige til Yentralnekken.
Cellerne ere overalt rigt hesatte med lange,
stavformede Spikier, der ere noget forskjellige baade i Længde og
Bredde, fra 0,660—0,893-" lange og fra 0,020—0,035™
brede, Fig. 30; de ere trekantede, tilspidsede i begge
Ender. farvefri og ligge tæt til og paa hinanden; i de
føromtalte Tænder ordne disse Spikier sig pyramideformet
imod Tandens Spids. Aldeles lignende Spikier findes i
Sareosomaet, der er temmelig tyndt og halvt gjennemsigtigt;
kun i det smale, nøgne Belte paa VentralHaden ligge
Spiklerne enkeltvis og meget langt fra hverandre og danne
afbrudte Længderækker; de ere 0,223™ lange. 0,017™ brede
paa Midten.
Polyperne ere cylindriske: deres Krop er omtrent
3"’" lang. forsynet med 8 svage Længderibber, der antyde
Insert ionerne for Septa og er uden Kalk. Tentaklerne ere
fjederformede, lange, omkring 5—G"» og have paa_ hver
Side omtrent 2(1 Pinnuler. Paa Midtpartiet af
Tentaklernes a ho rale Plade sees lige fra «runden og næsten til
Spidsen en uafbrudt Række af trekantede, valseformede
Spikier, Fig. 18. hvoraf de ved Tentakelens Grund og
Spids ere meget smaa, imedens de øvrige ere fra 11,290—0,818™
lange og fra 0,020—0,027»» brede, Fig. 19.
Zooiderne have en vid, næsten rund Mundaabning,
Fig. 17.«. og ere omgivne krandsformigt af spindelformede,
trekantede Spikier, der udgaa viftrformigt fra Grunden,
ligge paa hverandre og udbrede sig omkring Zooiden, saa at
denne er vel beskyttet. Disse Spikier ere fra 0,280—0,357"’"
lange og fra 0,020—0,035™ brede. Fig. 17, b.
Spiklerne ere overalt uden Farve.
Farven.
Rachis svagt gulrod. Polypcellerne ved Grunden
smuk teglstensrode. Polvporne vandklare; Tentaklerne
ligesaa.

The ventral surface is almost flat; it’s mesial part
forms a narrow unoccupied stripe, and nn each of the
sides, there is a regular series of zooids. which, as it were,
defines tin- ventral surface (fig. 15). The», zooids protrude
a little more forward than those of the dorsal side, and
are situated further apart from each other, whilst, also, at
the point where they abut on the lateral cells, there are.
usually, two of them placed alongside each other, but
otherwise, the series is solely composed of solitary zooids. Between
a few of tile cellular series, the zooids are seen to occupy
the space right up to the ventral series.
Til., cells are. everywhere, richly beset with long,
rod-like spicules, which vary somewhat, both, in length
and breadth, measuring from 0.5B0—0.893— long, and
trom 0.020—0.035"» broad .fig. 20). They are triangular,
acuminated at both extremities, and colourless, and tliev
are placed close up to. and upon each other. In the teeth
already spoken of. these spicules arrange themselves in
pyramidal form towards the point of the tooth. Exactly
similar spicules are found in the sarcosoma. which is pretty
thin and semi-transparent. Only in Ille narrow, unoccupied
stripe on the ventral surface, do the spicules appear, singh.
at long intervals from each other, and form interrupted
longitudinal series. They measure II.223"" in length, and
0.1117"" in breadth at the middle.
The polyps are cylindrical: their body is about 3""’
long, and is furnished with 8 delicate longitudinal ribs,
which denote the insertions for the septa, au.I are devoid
of calcium. The tentacles are leather-shaped, and about
5—6— long, and they have about 211 pinnules on each
side, tu the mesial part of the ahoral surface of the
tentacles. there is seen, extending right from the base and
almost to the point, a continuous series of triangular,
roller-formed spicules (fig. 18). of which, those situated at
the base, and point of the tentacles, are very small,
whilst, the others, are from 0.290—0.318™ long, anil from
0.020—0.027"" broad (fig. 19).
The zooids have a wide, almost round oral aperture
(fig. 17. fl,), and are surrounded in wreath form, by
fusiform triangular spicules, which issue from the base in
a fan-shape, lie upon each other, and spread themselves
around the zooid. so that it is well protected. These
spicules are from 0.280—0.357™ long, and from 0.020—0.035......
broad (fig. 17,(i).
The spicules are, everywhere, colourless.
Colour.
The rachis is faint yellowish-red. The polyp-cells are.
at their base, a beautiful brick-red colour. The polyps are
clear as water, and the tentacles are the same.
Habitat.
Station No. 252. Westfjord, south of Skraaven. 17(1
fathoms. Clay bottom with gravel intermixed. One
specimen.
