liar facilities which the Post Office possesses
from the amount of its stations, if I may so call
them, for extending telegraphic communication?
— 1 would say first, that the Post Office has a
large number of money-order offices, which it has
opened with direct regard to the ‘requirements of
the population. The money-order offices are al
ways in the centre of the population which they
serve; as a rule, we open a money-order office
wherever we expect that 12 money orders a week
will be issued from it; but ice constantly accord
to places which are separated by a hill or a river,
or a considerable length of road from their nearest
money-order office, the accomodation which such
an office will give, even although we do not ex
pect that more thgn one money order per tvorking
day will be issued at the newly opened office.
98. You have spoken of telegraph stations
at which there is intormittant attendance, and of
some at which there is constant attendance; do
you know what the average attendance per day
is, I mean the number of hours? T No, 1 am
not prepared to say that.
99. But you can tell us, with regard to
your own money-order offices, at what period of
the day they are accessible to the public? —
They are open for money order business from nine
in the morning till six in the evening, but they are
open for other portions of the business during a
much longer period ; they might all be kept open
from seven till eight, and in a great number of
cases they might be kept open till ten, while a
large number might be kept open all night, and a
much larger number than those telegraph stations
which are now kept open all night.
100. I believe that it is very difficult to
gct a telegram sent at night in the majority of
places? — Yes, except to or from large towns.
101. But with your multiplicity of locations
you could have no difficulty here and there in
håving that facility given to the public? —It
is not merely the number that we have, but neces
sarily a great part of the Post Office business is
done atlnight, and therefore we have somebody on
the spot.

net har et stort Antal Pengeanvisningskontorer, som
det har aabnet med direkte TIensyn til Befolknin
gens Krav. Pengeanvisningskontorerne ere bestan
digt i Centrum af den Befolkning, som de ere be
stemte for; i Regelen aabne vi et Anvisningskontor
hvorsomhelst vi vente, at 12 Pengeanvisninger om
Ugen ville blive udstedte; men vi indrømme stadigt
Steder, der ere adskilte ved en Høi eller en Flod
eller en større Veidistance fra deres nærmeste
Anvisningskontor, den Lettelse, som et saadanl
Kontor ’medfører, seiv om vi ikke vente, at mere
end een Pengeanvisning pr. Arbeidsdag vil blive ud
stedt fra det nyaabnede Kontor.
98. De har talt om Telegrafstationer, hvor
der er intermitterende Tjeneste, og andre, hvor
der er stadig Tjeneste; ved De, hvad den gjen
nemsnitlige Tjeneste pr. Dag beløber sig til; jeg
mener Timeantallet? — Nei, det er jeg ikke for
beredt paa at kunne sige.
99. Men De kan sige os angaaende Deres
egne Pengeanvisningskontorer, paa hvilken Tid af
Dagen de ere tilgjængelige for Publikum? — De
ere aabne for Udstedelse af Pengeanvisninger fra
9 Morgen til 6 Åften, men de ere aabne for andre
Dele af Forretningen i meget længere Tid; de kunde
alle holdes aabne fra 7 Morgen til 8 Aften og i
en stor Mængde Tilfcelde kunde de holdes aabne
til Kl. 10, medens et stort Antal kunde holdes aabne
hele Naiten, og det et meget større Antal end de
Telegrafstationer, som nu holdes aabne hele Natten.
100. Jeg tror det er meget vanskeligt at
faa et Telegram afsendt om Natten paa de fle
ste Steder? — Ja, undtagen til eller fra store Byer.
101. Men med Deres Mangfoldighed af For
retningssteder vilde De ikke have nogen Yanskelig
hed ved her og der at give Publikum denne Let
telse? — Det er ikke blot det store Antal vi
have ; men en stor Del af Postijenesten udføres
nødvendigvis om Natten og derfor have vi Nogen
paa Stedet,
