1933, and 1,220,000 copies to foreign countries.
This does not, however, furnish a complete
picture of the circulation of Norwegian newspapers,
since the great majority of the more important
dailies are delivered at subscriber’s door by
messengers employed by each newspaper office. The
so-called Landsmaal press, published in neo-Norse,
and whose prime object is to propagate the
neo-Norse language, is not a very large one, having only
a few small journals. It would, however, be unjust
to judge the position held by neo-Norse by the
number of its press organs. As pointed out in the
article under Literature, the neo-Norse language
has gained a very strong position, or more
correctly, «parity», in school, church, and
administration.
Norwegian journalists, editors and subordinates
have as their organisation the non-political Norsk
Presseforbund, address: Stortingsplass 7, Oslo.
Chairman: Knut Domaas, Editor.
In addition, each of the large political parties
has its own press association. Sunday issues are
prohibited in Norway.
Daily newspapers in Oslo:
Aftenposten: Twice daily, established 1860.
Conservative. Chief editors: Joh. Nesse (politics),
Carl Huitfeldt (news), H. Øverland (foreign
section).
Arbeiderbladet: Once daily, established 1884.
Socialistic; main organ of the Labour Party.
Chief editor: Martin Tranmæl.
