gian coast rises out of the sea at Mgre; the fog
suddenly lifts, and the sun breaks forth again.
We are now steaming between the islands of
Sunmgre and the fjords. Here, too, there are
mountains, but no ice and snow. We sail past
smiling towns and cultivated districts; leafy
woods clothe the slopes, and verdant fields
brighten the scene around well-kept farms, What
a contrast!
We now enter the most magnificent fjords in
Norway — Hjgrund Fjord and Geiranger Fjord.
This may be said to mark the close of our
wonderful tourist cruise to North Norway and
Svalbard. After giving her passengers a rest in
these beautiful surroundings the Stavangerfjord
proceeds along the coast southward, disembarking
passengers at Bergen, Stavanger, Kristiansand,
and Oslo. ,
A cruise that none of us will ever forget.
Det Bergenske Dampskibsselskab is another
shipping company that arranges tourist cruises to
North Norway and Svalbard each summer with
its beautiful and comfortable tourist yacht, the
Stella Polaris. It follows nearly the same route
as the Stavangerfjord. A third company, Det
Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab (Trondheim)
also runs a fine tourist ship, the Prins Olav, to
North Norway and Svalbard.
Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskab has in the
summertime a fortnightly service between Narvik,
