‘THE NORWEGIAN NOBEL INSTITUTE _ By his Will of November 27, 1895 the Swedish industrialist, Dr. Alfred Bernhard Nobel, deter- mined that the major part of his estate, in all thirty million Kroner, should form a fund the interest on which should annually be distributed as prizes to those who had in the previous year done the greatest service to humanity. The prin- cipal fund of the Nobel Institute was 31,874,746 Swedish Kronor at December 31, 1932. The found- ation is administered by a board consisting of five Swedish members resident in Stockholm. The board is controlled by a committee of represent- atives numbering fifteen members. Of the prizes to be awarded each year, the so-called Peace Prize shall be awarded by the Norwegian Storting. According to the provisions of the Will this prize is to be awarded to «such person as shall have worked most or best for the promotion of fraternity among nations and for the abolition or reduction of standing armies, also for the establishment and extension of Peace Congresses». 210
