fabrikat!
SYNOPSIS OF CONTENTS
Norma Compagnie G. m. b. H., Stuttgart —
Cannstatt
Dr Junghans, Managing Director of the Norma Company,
gives in his article a short history of his Company, which
was founded in 1905 by Dr Albert Hirth and Mr E. G.
Hoffmann (the latter being the founder of The Hoffmann
Manufacturing Company in England) in collaboration with
Mr Lilienfein and Dr Junghans.
The Norma Company has, almost from its inception,
specialised in two types of bearings, namely, the small
»schulter» bearing used chiefly for magnetos, tachometers
and fractional horse power motors, etc., and the
cylindrical roller bearing with short rollers and the outer ring
slightly convex. The latter bearing was used extensively
during the War for airships and aeroplanes.
The Norma Company has recently begun the
manufacture af small roller bearings for motor cycles and roller
bearing textile spindles.
In January 1914 the Norma Company and SKF were
affiliated, and as a result, large factory extensions were
made in the following Spring. The Company now
employ about 1,250 hands, and further extensions are in
course of erection. As a result of the affiliation with
SKF, the manufacture of S KF single row bearings has
been started.
Messrs Hirth, Lilienfein and Dr Junghans are still
directing the activities of the Norma Company.
Wembley
The editorial staff of »Sfären» have deemed it of
interest to the many readers of their paper in different parts
of the world to include a short description of the
Exhibition at Wembley, but as this is probably well known to
English readers, no attempt is made here to give an idea
of the contents of Mr Zetterstrom’s article.
»The House that Jack Built»
Mr Almroth, one of the designing engineers in the S K P
Drawing Office in Gothenburg, has built his own house in
his spare time during the last two years. He has not only
designed and constructed it from the foundation upwards
but has made most of his furniture. The task has, of course,
taken almost all his spare time, occupying him about six
hours a day after his work with SKF, and he estimates
that he has spent about 4,000 working hours on the
building, excluding the furniture, armatures for electric light,
etc. The entire building, with the exception of the ground,
has cost him about kr. 7,000, which amount, of course,
represents but a small portion of the cost of construction
by a builder. He himself modestly declares that he is
somewhat astonished that everything has succeeded so
well, as he has had no special knowledge of the work, and
adds that it has presented no great difficulties, so that he
believes that »anyone with a little enterprise could do
the same».
