Denna torra uppräkning af Talbots alla titlar passar onekligen
bättre för en statskalender än för ett drama, men katalogen är
intressant, ty den ger oss en antydan om diktens tillkomst. Själf
hade Shakspere med all sannolikhet icke varit i Rouen och där
skrifvit af inskriptionen på grafven, utan han hade tydligen fått
den af någon, som af en eller annan anledning kopierat den.
Men han har också tillgodogjort sig andra traditioner om Tal»
bot, hvilka icke återfinnas hos Holinshed och häller icke i nå*
gon annan historisk källskrift - - så t. ex. episoden om grefvin*
nan af Auvergne — och det är då ganska rimligt, att han fått
äfven dem af samme Talbotbeundrare, som gifvit honom grift*
