and kissed the ground under our feet, there was not
much enjoyment to be got out of them.
At six in the evening wc were given a big dinner
by the Mayor, the Geographical Society and others.
Here again I was asked to give a lecture. I then
spoke about our voyage to the Yenisei and about the
chances of future regular sailings to the Yenisei estuary ;
and I met with the same cordial reception and found
the same deep interest in the development of Siberia,
although what I had to say was of no direct importance
to this region.
