Commerce"), Stockholm, Sweden.

AND ITS RELATIONS TO THE SWEDISH IRON- AND STEEL-INDUSTRIES.

is a Swedish saying to the effect that "a thing that is accidental may
ap-pear intentional.» It may not be quite justifiable to apply this saying to a certain
coincidence that will strike the observant eye of any well-guided visitor to the Swedish
Capital, but the coincidence has nevertheless a somewhat symbolical signification

The above reflection is suggested by the following circumstance: At the spot where
the busiest thoroughfare in Stockholm opens into the heart of the city,-the garden
square of Kungsträdgården, -the corners are flanked by two buildings where centres
much of the activity from which modern commercial Sweden draws its life blood

To the left, as seen from the Square, stands "Jernkontoret», (Iron Masters
Association), an Institution which may, perhaps, be described as a cooperative Clearing
and Stabilising House for all the great iron- and steel-producers of the country It
