SVENSK BOTANISK TIDSKRIFT. 1922. Bo. 16, H. 1:
ON A COLLECTION OF’PTERIDOPHYTA FROM
CELEBES LEG. DR. W. KAUDERN.
BY
CARL CHRISTENSEN.
From Dr. SELIM BIRGER, Stockholm, I have received for deter-
mination a collection of Pteridophyta, gathered by Dr. W. KAUDERN
during his travels in Northern, Central- and East-Celebes 1917—
1920. The collection is proportionally poor in species, in all 88,
but it contains several very interesting and new species so I find
it justified to publish this account.
The most comprehensive contributions to our knowledge of the
fern flora of Celebes were given by Dr. H. Cunisr, who in two pa-
pers (Ann. Jard. Buit. vol. 15, 1897, and II. vol. 4, 1904) has pub-
lished his determinations of the very rich collections brought
home by the cousins Sarasin. In these papers Curist described a
considerable number of new species; it is curious that Dr. Kau-
DERN has found none of them, the highly interesting Nephrolepis
dicksonioides Christ only excepted; it means perhaps that many fern-
species are very local in distribution. On the other hand Dr.
KAUDERN has discovered some few species in Celebes which were
known before from other Malayan or Papuan islands, and a re-
markable find is that of Pteris dactylina Hook., a species pre-
viously only known from Himalaya; besides he has detected five
species which I believe to be undescribed. I give below the full
description of these new species together with a few remarks on
some interesting ones.
Almost all species collected are large earth-ferns or species grow-
ing epiphytically on stems of trees. The collection lacks nearly
totally samples of the numerous small Polypodia and of Hymeno-
plujllaceae, which commonly grow in the crowns of tall trees and
