tial differences. between both; in our species the stipe and rachi-

ses are not densely tomentose but only deciduously and very

shortly puberulous with scale-like thick very short adpressed hairs,
the basal scales are ovate or nearly orbicular, not acuminate and

ciliate, they are peltatedly fixed to
a protuberance, that at least grow
out to a black straight or sometimes
hooked thorn, puberulous at the base;
similar but smaller spines are found
on the rachises; the ultimate veins
are less numerous, rarely five to each
tooth, and the sori are fewer, 1—3
rarely 4 to each tooth, all larger ones
diplazioid, finally the leaf is thickly
coriaceous (in D. vestitum described
as herbaceous or membranous).

Dryopteris sagenioides (Bl.) var.

gurupahensis n. var. (Fig. 2).

A forma typica differt: major,
stipes 30 cm, lamina 60 cm longa,
ad 30 cm lata, pinnis numerosiori-
bus (ad 15-jugis).

Goeroepahi, in primeval forest
(no. 17, 18).

The larger forms resemble in ge-
neral habit more D. syrmatica( Willd.)

O. K., but the subsessile pinnz, ebe-:

nous or atropurpureous rachis, ve-
nalion etc. are those of D. sagenioi-

gurupahensis n. var. a medial pinna,
nat. size, b segments X 2.

des. The fronds vary considerably in breath, from 10 to 30 cm.

Dryopteris multilineata (Pr.) C. Chr. comb. nov. (non O. Ktze.).

Aspidium multilineatum (Pr.) Mett. Aspid. no. 258, Nephrodium Haenkea-
num Bak. Syn. Fil. 290 (non Presl. Epim. 46).

Pinapoean, East-Celebes (no. 108).

The species was very improperly by most authors united with
Nephrodium Haenkeanum Presl. from the Mariannes (Tectaria serrata
Cav.), which t. specimen orig. in Herb. Presl. and Herb. Cav. scar-
cely differs from Aspidium cucullatum Bl.
