of the mining school pupils; in 1869 the State subsidy was further raised to
75 000 kronor. In the introductory paragraph of the new statutes of March
22nd, 1867 the aim of the High School is stated to be "to impart to young
men who desire to devote themselves to some technical profession the scientific
training required for that purpose". This rendered necessary a division into
schools for different branches of industry: one for machine construction and
mechanical technology, one for chemical technology, one for mining science —
with three sub-departments, and one for road construction and hydraulic engineering.
A new budget of 139 200 kronor for the institute was sanctioned by the
Government on May 12th, 1876, on which occasion the establishment received its
present name of the Royal Technical High School. In accordance with the new
statutes of March 2nd, 1877, the teaching staff was to consist of 12 professors,
6 lecturers, 5 extra teachers and assistants, while a new branch for architecture
was established.

By an enactment of the Riksdag in 1884, the State subsidy was increased to
146 700 kronor. In addition to incidental lesser grants in 1889, 1890, and
1891, the Riksdag of 1895 voted 318 230 kronor and the Government granted
from the manufactures loan-fund the sum of 23 000 kronor towards a material
testing institute (Materialprovningsanstalt). In succeeding Riksdags the State
subsidy was raised in 1899 to 187 050 kronor. On June 28th, 1901, the
Government issued new statutes for the High School, which, with the exception
of a subsequent slight alteration, are still in force; in 1906, the ordinary
subsidy was raised to 203 000 kronor, to which may be added subsequent
extraordinary grants amounting to about 50 000 kronor.

The largest amount demanded for the High School was granted, on the
Government’s proposal, by the Riksdag of 1911, viz. 4 619 000 kronor for new buildings
