775 of these institutions. During the period from 1801 to 1850 1 787 and in
the period from 1851 to 1900 6 548 new institutions were founded.

A law providing for the superintendence of the employment and administration
of these donation funds is now being prepared.

Social Administration of tlie State.

The social duties of the community long rested to a great extent on
local bodies, and in particular on the communal administration, which
amongst other obligations had charge of the relief of the poor (fattigvård)
